Intel 2200BG, mini-pci wlan card - WPA2 support (new drivers required)


Hardware: Dell Latitude D400, D410 (all computers with Intel 2200BG mini-pci wlan card).
New drivers required to enable WPA2 support. Original Dell drivers from support pages for D400/D410 doesn't support WPA2, and a new driver download from Intel is required.

Conclusion: Driver update from Intel supports WPA2.
Drivers for hardware not updated on Dell support pages.

Dell latitude D400 LCD display bleed through.

12" LCD display has backlight bleed through (in the middle of the screen)

Conclusion: Bad design from Dell, and the LCD display has plastic pads in the display assembly supporting the LCD display to reduce flex.

The plastic pads are to thick, resulting in excessive pressure on the screen causing the bleed through. Removing the plastic pads doesn't help and the result is a permanent "broken" LCD display, always showing bleed through.

The computer is now (2009) classified as "old" and there is no reason to replace LCD display. Standard Dell LCD connection to Motherboard (same as C400/D410)

Dell latitude/inspiron LED flash codes.

Hardware: Dell Latitude d410
Error = Led Sequence (flash code), indicator what is wrong. No error beep codes á la 1990.

Problem: Dell D410 laptop (dothan/banias) from around 2006 did not boot up and displayed a led error flash code.  Trial and error = faulty bluetooth chip. Once removed, computer started up again.

Mini-pci Wlan card with 3 antennas!

Gigabyte GN-WI03N mini-pci wlan card with  -N speed (300Mbit).
System: Windows XP. Wireless Zero Configuration to handle connections. 


Card with 3 antenna outputs. Computer with 2 antennas built into chassies/under LCD screen.  
Mimo support requires 3 antennas. 




GN-WI03N output = 0,1,2
Router = Dlink DIR-655
Intel mini-pci, 2200bg = 2 antenna outputs (main + aux). Main = white antenna cable, aux = black antenna cable.


Switching the antennas between different connections = different speed, number of networks . 


white to #0 + black to #2 = 300 60Mbit/s downstream, 18Mbit/s upstream.  
white to #0 + black to#1 = lower performance, and less wireless networks detected. 


Router set to dual frequencies (2.4 + 5Ghz) = 300 Mbit/s connection.
Router set to single frequency = 130Mbit/sec connection speed.
